Feral hogs aren’t newcomers to Texas, they’ve been roaming the state since the 1500s, when early Spanish explorers first brought them here. Over the centuries they’ve adapted, thrived, and become one of the most exciting game animals in the Lone Star State. At Keechi Creek Ranch, our hogs are plentiful, resilient, and always ready to test the skills of any hunter who steps onto our land.
The Wild Boar
Broad shouldered and bristly, the wild boar is the symbol of hog hunting in Texas. These animals are powerful and intelligent, with keen senses and a knack for disappearing into the brush at the first sign of danger. Trophy boars on our ranch can tip the scales at 200 pounds or more, with tusks that make for both an impressive challenge and a lasting trophy.
Sows and Sounders
Not all hogs roam alone. Many move in family groups called sounders, led by experienced sows. These groups are constantly on the move, rooting for food and keeping an eye out for threats. Spotting and harvesting from a sounder demands patience and precision. A different kind of challenge than going after a solitary boar.
Tusks, Teeth, and Tenacity
One of the defining features of feral hogs is their tusks. Used for digging, defense, and fighting, they are both practical tools and fearsome weapons.
